Principal's Message

Welcome Back Woodstation Generals!

Welcome back to the new school year 2019-2020. At Woodstation our theme this year is “Toy Story- You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, using the animated characters and theme.  I am so excited to get the year started! I hope you have had a wonderful summer break, filled with opportunities to learn and grow with your family.

August is the time of year to reconnect with old friends and welcome new friends.  To those parents who are new to WES, we extend a warm welcome and best wishes for an exciting and productive school year for our students. We hope you will feel at home and become involved in the many activities of our PTO and your child’s classroom program.

Our teachers will be working hard to create routines and rituals that will help our students with classroom behaviors and make your students successful. I feel we have the best students and teachers in the world at Woodstation. Thank you for giving the staff the opportunity to work with your children.

I would like you to help me welcome the following new staff members to WES:  Ms. Morgan Stanley- Pre-K Parapro, Ms. Corie Wilson- Kindergarten Parapro for Mrs. Gracy, and Julie Dietz- New Pre-K teacher working with Mrs. Lauren Vick in our Pre-K department. We also have a new school nurse this year, Mrs. Vann.  We are thrilled to have them as members of our Woodstation Team.

This year our Woodstation staff will work together to sponsor FAST (Family and School Team) we will have 2 group meetings and 2 FAST individual meetings throughout the school year with a focus on grade-level foundational skills to be determined by the academic coach and your child’s teacher.  At Woodstation teachers will help facilitate a strong home-school partnership by building a Family-School Compact that includes input from teachers, parents, and students and will serve as a signed commitment to working together to gain greater student achievement.  At Woodstation we want our parents to actively participate in the decision making process at school by completing parent surveys, giving input about the Parent and Family Engagement policy, budget, program, and by participating in Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings throughout the school year.

At Woodstation student and faculty safety is our highest priority.  All exterior doors at WES are locked with students are in attendance during the normal school hours.  For any visitor to gain access to the building, the buzzer system located at the front door of the school must be used.  Our friendly office staff will greet visitors through the intercom system and will ask the visitor to provide information regarding his/her visit.  Once inside the building, we will ask you to proceed to the office to sign in on our Guest and Visitor Computer terminal. All Visitors will be required to wear a visitor badge on your chest to provide proper identification. I know you will agree that it is worth the time to know that only authorized individuals are walking the halls of our school.

Please make sure to update the blue sheet in your child’s handout packet so we will have the most up-to-date information which allows us to communicate with you. Text-Alert has proven to be the quickest and most effective way of getting parents needed information or notifying you when the schools have to be closed due to inclement weather, or having early dismissal.

I strongly believe that every child can learn and achieve the highest level of academic success with the proper preparation and support. Let’s make this year a truly great year at Woodstation Elementary.
