January Newsletter 2016

Parents,

I want to take the time to remind you of the importance of updating your Inclement Weather / Emergency Dismissal Form if needed. This is the form that provides us with instruction as to how to send students home in case of early dismissal for inclement weather. You may update this form in the main office with all possible friends or relatives who would have permission to pick up your child if you were unable to do so. Please remember to arrive before 8:00 a.m., if you arrive at 8:01 a.m. or after walk in with your child to sign-in for safety reasons.

Here we are in the third nine weeks. We are currently working down to just 97 days until the Georgia Miles Stone test starts. We have made huge gains the first half of the year and are using everyday to prepare students for success. Every day is important for us to help students learn the standards needed to be successful next school year; we appreciate our parents making sure that our students are at school every day, on time and ready to learn.

During the third nine weeks our teachers have begun reassessing student progress with the second benchmark in Star Reading and Math toward reaching their goals this year.   Our goal for every student is to be at or above the benchmark in the areas of Math and Reading. Parents, I appreciate your support and would like to thank the teachers and staff at Woodstation for making learning a priority every day. To remind everyone of our counties theme for this school year, “Graduation make it Happen” is to raise our graduation rate to reach targets set to improve the graduation rate in Catoosa County.

Our teachers will be scheduling Parent conferences on Feb. 18th and 23rd from 3p.m. to 6 p.m. to help answer any questions you may have with your child’s progress. A sign-up sheet will be coming home with your child, please sign-up to talk with your child’s teacher.

Woodstation is hosting the book-fair February 22nd – 26th Our Book Fair will also be open late on Feb. 23rd till 6 p.m. during that time for you to come by to browse and shop for some great books and items. Dr. Seuss week is March 1st – 4th

This will be Woodstation’s third year for our Track team and it will start in March with information available on our school website. Track is for any boy or girl 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade with good grades, behavior and attendance. Sign up information will be coming in a few weeks for our students to have fun learning about track and field.
