April 2016 Newsletter

Dear Woodstation Family,

All students enrolled in third through eighth grade in Georgia schools are required to take the Georgia Milestones test. This test is designed to measure the knowledge and skills taught in Georgia classrooms. It will assess these skills in the areas of reading, English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students will be assessed on how well they have learned the academic standards that have been established by the state for their grade.

At Woodstation, this test will be administered:

• Reading/ELA – April 18th

• Writing – April 19th

• Math – April 20th

• Science – April 21st

• Social Studies – April 22nd

Results from this test will be provided to you, the school, and the school system as a tool to help enrich the educational program that we offer your child. I’m so pleased with the hard work of our Generals (students and teachers) this year. Everyone has worked so well together so that our students can learn as much as possible.

I know our teachers have prepared your students to be successful. I am looking forward to seeing our students rise to the challenge and do their very best!

On our school’s website ( under "WES Parents and Students" on the left is a Power Point presentation on the Georgia Milestones and a Georgia Student Growth Model Video which are two really good sources of information. I’m looking forward to seeing the GMS Test results, which I feel confident will reflect everyone’s hard work! If you have questions regarding the GMS Test, please feel free to contact your teacher or an administrator at 706- 935-6700.

On May 3 from 5:00-7:15, we are hosting a "Welcome to Woodstation" event for upcoming Pre-K and Kindergarten students who will attend Woodstation next school year. Please help us get the word out and join us so we can welcome our new students to our wonderful school!

Lastly, if you arrive after 8:00 a.m. and I am walking to put up the cones at the end of the parking lot, your child is tardy. With just 7 weeks left in the school year, let’s please do our best to get here on time to finish the year strong!

Go Generals!
